Cannibale Royale Handboogstraat

About Handboogstraat

Cannibale Royale Handboogstraat is the very first Cannibale Royale, where the brand began. It is in the heart of Amsterdam’s city centre, between the Spui and Kalverstraat. It is open daily from 12:00 for lunch and dinner. The kitchen stays open until midnight, and until 01:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. That makes it one of the last places in the centre to get a proper late-night steak or burger. Drink a Cannibale Royale, the house lemongrass pale ale by Two Chefs Brewing, or a Cannibale Blond by Walhalla Craft Beer. Groups of up to 30 are welcome, and so are dogs.

Handboogstraat sits in the heart of Amsterdam, between the Spui and Kalverstraat, the city’s busiest shopping street. Around the corner is the Begijnhof, a hidden medieval courtyard, and on Fridays the Spui hosts its book market. The Flower Market on the Singel, the Munttoren and the Amsterdam Museum are all within walking distance. It is the place to sit down after shopping or a museum visit, and after dinner Rembrandtplein and Leidseplein are a short walk away for nightlife.

If you're after late-night meat in central Amsterdam, Cannibale Royale Handboogstraat fits the bill, though it can feel a bit industrial. The vibe is dimly lit, loud, and constantly busy, making service hit-or-miss depending on the hour. The ribs are decent—sticky, sweet, and soft enough—though not standard-setting. The flat iron steak came cooked as requested, but needed a bit more seasoning to stand out. Pairing it with a glass of house red wine washed it down fine, though the pour felt standard for the price. Overall, it’s a dependable, unpretentious spot for a heavy midnight bite, just don't expect fine dining

Really enjoyed this place. It’s tucked away in a small alley and I probably wouldn’t have found it without Google Maps, but it was surprisingly busy when we got there. I had the burger and it was genuinely really good. The beer was great too, and the staff were friendly and welcoming throughout the evening. Nice atmosphere, good food, and overall just a very solid spot that I’d happily visit again.

This small and off grid little restaurant comes with a punch. Book your table, let them know beforehand if you want the Waygu. And the come here an d enjoy. The staff are welcoming and attentive, thanks Emma for great service. Also, the sides are big, so get more and share and you’ll be fine. We will absolutely be coming back and can warmly recommend.

The short ribs and sausage really stood out, but everything was fantastic. The staff were knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. This is a chill place to sit back and eat meat. Would definitely go there again.

Super delicious! Recommend ribeye 10/10 and beef spare rib 10000/10, so tender, it just melts in your mouth without chewing. Bread with butter is to die for as well, crunchy and salted outside and soft inside, the butter on the side is marinated with kruiden to this perfect taste and paired so well with the bread. I love it so much! What kind of bread is it?
